How much weight I lost and how long it took

In 2001, I topped the scales at 254 pounds. I tried low carb for awhile and got to 200 pounds. I hovered around there for several years, sorta kinda doing low carb. Then in 2005, I got serious, started strict low carb. Since 2006 I've weighed 150 pounds! At 5"6", I am comfortable at this weight and am able to maintain. If I see the scale start to go back up, I go back to strict low carb again. My cholesterol has went down. I no longer have to take blood pressure meds. Let me stress this is a way of life, not a diet. Even when I'm not on strict low carb. I avoid sugar, flour, potatoes and bread.

The approach I've used to lose weight

My plan is based on Atkin's. My biggest challenges are the holidays, but I try to make sure, there are low carb choices available. When I do cheat, I try to prepare in advance, maybe lose a couple extra pounds before the holidays, so i have wiggle room! :)

Tips and Tricks

  • Low carb candies and bars are a no-no for me, can stall or reverse my weight loss. As far as pasta and bread goes, I realized it wasn't the pasta and bread I loved but the stuff that went on it! So I make crustless pizza, stuffed bell peppers without the rice. Have plenty of low carb snacks available. Nuts, cheese, cocoa dusted almonds.
