The Bottom Line
This line of high fiber, low carb instant hot cereal is handy, nutritious, and fairly good-tasting, but expensive. There are 6 flavors of Flax Z Snax Hot Cereal: Cinnamon and Spice, Vanilla Almond, Butter Pecan, Strawberries and Cream, Divine Pecan Praline, and Decadent Chocolate Crème. The last two are wheat-free, which are the ones that I tried. Why they changed the name from the more descriptive "Flax-O-Meal" is beyond me.

Guide Review - Flax Z Snax Hot Cereal (Formerly Flax-O-Meal)
Ingredients: The main ingredients are golden flax meal, wheat bran (except for the wheat-free ones), and soy protein isolate. The wheat-free kinds also have oat fiber, and they all have a variety of other flavorings and sources of fiber.Flavor: I found that the Divine Pecan Praline had a background soy taste that detracted from the overall flavor. However, adding real pecans, cinnamon, and a pat of butter brought it a lot closer to the Divine adjective. The chocolate flavor didnt have the problem with the soy taste and the chocolate was mild enough that it could be eaten for breakfast without it seeming like youre eating a dessert. Any of the cereals can be altered to taste by adding ingredients.
Price: I have seen it on sale for as low as $5.49 a bag, which has 6 servings. It usually runs around $6-8 at most online sources.
Comparisons: In comparing it with a similar homemade cereal, Peanut Butter Flax Cereal, the two have similar amounts of carbs. The Flax Z Snax has more fiber, and a bit less protein. The texture of Flax Z Snax is more like oatmeal, where the homemade is more like Cream of Wheat in consistency. Both can be made in a bowl. Flax seeds can be purchased at a health food store near me for $1.19 per pound.
