Here are some of the highlights of my blog in the year 2008. These blog posts provide general commentary and opinion, as well as low-carb diets in the news, or related nutrition and diet news. For my posts covering scientific research related to low-carb diets in 2008, see the 2008 Science New Archive.

1/19/08 - Physicians Recognizing Value of Low-Carb Diets -- The cardiologist at About.com has written a piece on the "State of Atkins 2008", and it's very positive and balanced.

1/30/08 - What if Saturated Fat is Not the Problem? - I point to a couple of good articles about saturated fat, and how just maybe it's not the demon food which is often portrayed.

3/10/08 - Low-Carb Blog Roundup - Some of the best of low-carb blogs posts at that time. Some really great stuff!

7/18/08 - Is the Media Softening Towards Low-Carb Diets? - The media responds to a large diet study. Yes, there were detractors, but I observe a distinct difference in the media reaction to this research when compared to other large-scale studies in the last few years which favored low-carb diets.

8/5/08 - An Open Comment to Dr. Dean Ornish - More response to a kerfuffle in the media over the recent large diet study. I take exception to the commentary by low-fat diet advocate Dr. Dean Ornish.

8/23/08 - New Recommendations for Pre-Diabetes - When do the risks of diabetes begin? The American College of Endocrinolgy attempts to answer the question in this report. I throw in my two cents regarding this critical question.

9/29/08 - Small, Dense LDL Cholesterol May Be the Real Killer - We know that low-carb diets tend to change the constitution of the "bad" cholesterol. I discuss this and point to an article about how to get your LDL particle size tested.

10/6/08 - How Low Should You Go? - Some people apparently are trying for zero carbs. I explain why I don't think this a good idea.

10/8/08 - Much Ado About Fructose - I comment about dueling PR campaigns between sugar and high fructose corn syrup. Is one worse than the other, or are they just both really bad?

10/16/08 - The Facts About Ketosis - Wherein I take on an article about the "dangers of ketosis". The misconceptions about this, and are often pulled out as an argument against carb-cutting.

10/29/08 Tips for Controlling Cravings - I found a great article on MSNBC that includes tips from low-carb diet experts.

11/30/09 Gary Taubes on Carbs and Obesity - Gary Taubes' book, Good Calories, Bad Calories is an epic history of how we came to believe that low-fat diets are superior, and why that is so wrong. It's out in paperback. I include a link to good prices on the book and one to an article summarizing some of the book. Here are a couple of videos of Gary as well: a long one and a shorter one.
