The Body Mass Index (BMI) was created to give people an idea of whether or not they are a healthy weight by using a formula which compares height and weight. To use this calculator, click on whether you are using centimeters and kilograms, or inches and pounds, then enter your height and weight and click the "calculate" button. Use the chart below to interpret your BMI number. You can also use this chart to find your BMI. Thanks to Stephen Chapman, About's Guide To Javascript, for this calculator.
These are the official categories for body weight based on BMI (Body Mass Index). Some people, including short women, those who are muscular, and older people, may not get an entirely accurate representation of their health risks using the BMI. BMI is meant to give people a general idea of whether they are at a healthy weight. For more detailed information about your body composition, try the Body Fat Percentage Calculator.
