Cracker Barrel

I like the Cracker Barrel restaurants as they have a whole low carb section on their menu. We only eat there when we travel though as none are that close to us otherwise. I order almost any sandwich at any restaurant and just ask for no bun. Kari

Eating Out Low Carb

I have 2 favorite places to eat out. One is McGrath's Fish House. Their Cape Cobb Salad is just about perfect the way it comes (with salmon, shrimp, avocado, bacon, egg, olives, etc.), but I have them hold the tomatoes. I order it with bleu cheese dressing and it is very filling. If I'm going to crave something, it is usually this salad! Another favorite is Red Robin. I order a Guacamole Bacon Burger protein-style (wrapped in lettuce), no tomatoes or onions, with a side salad (bleu cheese dressing, no tomatoes or tortilla strips) instead of fries. Both of these meals are very low carb and my BGL is usually in the 80s after eating them. Yum!

Going Out To Eat

This is what works for me the best. All places want you to have the salad first - but if I'm low carb - I just need to have my salad with my main course - so I have learned to tell the server that. Sometimes they just can't handle that. But - truth is that low carb means no potatoe & I feel lucky if the restaurant has a decent choice of vegetable that is prepared nicely & just not a pile of mush because it sat around in steam tables for way too long. Bottom line - what works for me is getting my salad & meat/seafood/omelette (or whatever I am having - if I get everything all at the same time - I feel more satisfied at the end of the meal & I have not cheated at all. Low carb can also be a fun way of life.
