These books and cookbooks related to the
Protein Power Diet by Michael Eades, M.D. and Mary Dan Eades, M.D. have links to the best prices on each.
It's over 10 years old, but the information in it is still solid and useful. The first half has a lot of science, which is really interesting, but it's perfectly possible to skip right to the second half of the book which has the "how to do it" part. There are lots of very useful charts to help in menu construction, and some very yummy recipes.
About 3/4 of this book covers interesting health subjects not directly related to the Protein Power Diet. The diet recommendations remain essentially the same, although there are some slight alterations from the first book, including a chart to easily determine protein recommendations. (Using the chart generally produces a recommendation of more protein compared to the
method in the first book.)
No long scientific explanations in this one. There's a little "note" printed on the front of the book that says, "The book that just tells you what to eat!" Indeed, after a short introductory section, this book focuses on the mechanics of the diet, including menus and recipes. They also have lists of serving sizes of foods, so you don't have to look up carb counts.
This is one of the best "carb counter" books I've seen. Although it's not one of the super-small "fits in your pocket" ones, it has a lot more listings than most of those. It also includes Omega 3 and Omega 6 fat listings for each food, a feature that I have not seen in any other food counts book.
As the title implies, this book is full of recipes for low carb comfort food. Signature recipes include Magic Rolls, Breads, Crepes, and Waffles. People with food sensitivities should be aware that many of the recipes contain wheat (usually vital wheat gluten) and soy products.
Anyone who saw the Eades on their PBS TV Show
Low Carb CookwoRx knows that they seem to enjoy cooking as well as sharing their nutritional expertise with us. This cookbook is based on that TV show, and contains over 150 recipes. Note that they do make use of some specialty ingredients which some people might have to mail order.
