The Bottom Line
This reminds me of a peanut butter cup, but any resemblance to the real thing is probably due to the power of suggestion from the packaging and appearance of the candy. When I close my eyes, it all goes away, and I'm left with little except for a whiff on the air which could be an actual peanut butter cup. Which this is not.
Pros
- Genuinely low carb and low sugar
- Uses erythritol instead of more objectionable sugar alcohols
- Reminiscent of an actual peanut butter cup
Cons
- Very little flavor at all
- Center has very dry texture, which many found objectionable

- Comes two to a pack, similar to regular peanut butter cups
- 160 calories, and 2 grams of effective carbohydrate
- Sweetened with erythritol, sucralose (Splenda), and a little glycerine
- Also contains inulin, a fermentable fiber which may produce mild gas
Guide Review - Product Review: Reese's 1 Gram Sugar Carb Peanut Butter Cups
Reeses Peanut Butter Cups are probably one of the most popular candies in the U.S. Therefore, it may make the heart of a low carber beat a little faster to see this on the shelf at the store. But is it worth it? To begin with, these are not the same thing as Sugar-Free Peanut Butter Cups, which are loaded with the dreaded maltitol (worse than eating sugar, in my opinion). Nor are they the Carb Alternative peanut butter cups, which I see on the Hersheys Web site, but never in the wild in my neck of the woods. No, these are the oddly-named 1 gram sugar carb variety pictured here.
They look like peanut butter cups, and they smell a little like peanut butter cups, but, alas, there is very little flavor of any kind in this product. To make matters worse, the texture of the peanut butter center is pretty objectionable. Here are some of the reactions of my tasting panel: The peanut butter doesnt taste like peanut butter and the chocolate doesnt taste like chocolate. Dry, dry dry! Like watching a black and white film you can tell what its supposed to be. Its better than ants. Chocolate tastes too sweet and not like chocolate. When the filling has been in your mouth it develops a terrible texture and taste like some gunk thats been scraped off something. I ran for water. In short, dont waste your money. The one star is because it probably wont raise your blood sugar like a lot of low carb candy.
