The amount of fat in a food isn't generally an issue on a low-carb diet, but the type of fat can be. Some diets such as the South Beach and Zone diets limit saturated fat, and everyone should stay away from trans fats. Although not usually labeled, choosing foods where most of the fat is monounsaturated is a good guide. In the context of a low-carb diet, total fat intake has not been shown to be a risk for heart disease. The same is true for cholesterol.
