How do you decide what foods to eat on holidays? The Drs. Eades of Protein Power talk about the “honey tree” concept - that is, the idea that our hunter-gatherer ancestors, whose diet usually consisted mainly of protein and vegetables, would occasionally come upon a cache of refined carbohydrates in the form of honey. At that point, they probably had a party! But then of course would go back to their usual way of eating. Do you follow the “honey tree philosophy” of holidays? Or do you figure that having your blood sugar up for even a day is a bad idea? (Of course, the trick is knowing yourself well enough to know how hard it will be to get back on track.) Tell us about it in the comments below. And check out these low-carb versions of Thanksgiving favorites.

Poll: Do You Have Low-Carb Plans for Thanksgiving?
- I'm going to de-carb Thanksgiving completely or to a large extent.
- I'm planning to have (or bring) some low-carb options, but otherwise eat traditional dishes.
- I'm going to limit portion sizes of high-carb foods, but have a little of all my traditional favorites.
- It's one meal - no problem. I'll eat what I want and go right back to low-carb the next meal.
- Thanksgiving is special and so are the leftovers! I'll be eating off-plan for 2 or 3 days.
- Honestly, I probably won't think too much about carbs until the Monday after Thanksgiving.

We are going to my son’s for thanksgiving so they will have turkey, I am taking a wild turkey roast, low carb green beans, cauliflower whipped and going to try a low carb pecan pie but might end up low carb cheese cake.
Taking homemade bread and pecan pies for the others, plus what others are bringing.
I’ll be going out to dinner….and just leaving what I don’t want. I’ll probably taste the potatoes and other high carb foods, but won’t likely eat them. I’m actually hoping to go to a steak house so I can get steak and salad rather than turkey.
I’m cooking for 23 people. Three of us are diabetic. I’ll be making the stuffing bread, stuffing and pumpkin pie recipes found here with Laura. I’ve already tested them and they are fantastic. We’ll have turkey, broccoli salad using a few walnuts and the dried cranberries whick I also learned how to do on this site. I’m making a black cherry jello salad to use in place of cranberry sauce because too much splenda just plain bothers me. Anyway that’s part of our feast and thanks.

I believe in loosening up a little bit but not going completely crazy. Picking one carb to have.
