Is the Glycemic Index Useful?

Sunday March 26, 2006
A recent study of the glycemic index yielded no positive results. Although there were many problems with that study, it does lead to some questions about the value of the glycemic index. This is important, as many reduced carbohydrate diets, such as the South Beach Diet, draw some of their recommendations from the glycemic index. I explore the problems with the index, and give my own recommendations about its use.

Also, do you remember a glycemic index where some foods, such as potatoes, were rated over 100? This older index is largely gone. I discuss the good and the bad about the change in Old Vs New Glycemic Index.
