Opinion: Media Response to Low Fat Research

“Put down the mayonnaise jar and no one will get hurt!” That's been a lot of the media reaction to last week's report that low fat diets might not be all that helpful in protecting against disease. Since the studies came out, there has been a flurry of media coverage, much of it showing a lot of concern that people might start eating more fat. How are people to know what to believe about medical studies in general, and this one in particular? Here are some of my thoughts on the matter, including a few words about the science of low fat and low carb diets.
