Low-Carb-Positive Comment in LA Times
Monday July 13, 2009

Nice reference to low-carb eating in an
article in the LA Times. Marnell Jameson wrote an article comparing some of the longevity "gurus" of the past 50 years or so, and getting nutritional experts of today to comment. After profiling both Nathan Pritikin and Robert Atkins, there is this commentary:
"Both Pritikin and Atkins contributed significant, well-documented science to the field of nutrition", says Jose Ordovas, professor of nutrition and a senior scientist at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University, where he is also director of the Nutrition and Genomics Laboratory. With his team he has studied both methods extensively. "Neither one is right or wrong. Each approach works for a specific genetic makeup...We have to move beyond the notion that diets are good or bad, and be careful not to globalize, and assume one dietary approach fits all."
Hear, hear!

I made a great discovery recently - my
sugar-free lemon curd makes a great mousse when it's mixed with whipped cream! Yum! Raspberries make it a great summer treat, either as a garnish or as part of the mousse. So check out my two new recipes:
Low-Carb Lemon Mousse and
Low-Carb Raspberry Lemon Mousse.

This weekend, I saw the movie "Food, Inc." (Have you ever tried to take notes in a movie theater? It may surprise you to learn that I was able to decipher 95% of my notes!) Though I'm someone who has read a lot about our food system, even I was surprised by some of the things I learned. I was unaware of the extent to which a few large companies have control over the whole shebang. One of the outcomes is a flood of sugar and other refined carbohydrates in our food supply. This is really a great movie, and I urge you to see if it you can. Check out my description and
review of "Food, Inc.".
